In 2002, I was offered a position as Training Consultant with Rockwell Automation with whom I have been associated ever since. I recently completed a long-term commissioning assignment for Rockwell USA in Nigeria, commissioning a power management system for a gas to liquid project at Escravos using Rockwell PLC, HMI and Network systems I now operate freelance and am associated with several companies carrying out mainly training assignments as and when required. I have recently started an E-Learning Virtual Classroom which is proving quite popular.
My main fields of expertise are RSlogix 5000 PLC platforms, Factorytalkview HMI systems, Ethernet networks and Instruimentation and control.
My experience is very extensive across many Instrumentation and Control System Fields, particularly PLC’s, Networks and HMI’s.
I have several courses on the Udemy Platform mainly covering Rockwell PLC's and HMI's but also Instrumentation and Ethernet Networks. I have more than 4000 students enrolled on my courses and this number is growing daily.I love training and passing on my considerable knowledge and experience to people who wish to enhance their skills and expertise.
Travelling is my passion and I have travelled extensively mainly in Sub Saharan Africa and the Middle East, specifically Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait. In Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Botswana. I have also spent some time in Egypt and more recently, Eritrea.
This has given me the opportunity to meet the most amazing people from all over the World.
My name is Jeff Sharman and I was born in the UK, educated in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I am married with 1 daughter, also married and I now have 2 grandchildren.
I studied at Chesterfield College of Technology and served a full 5-year apprenticeship as an Instrument Mechanic. This was followed by an extensive UK career as Commissioning and Service Engineer which involved travelling to all parts of the UK.
In 1981, I emigrated with my family to South Africa and was employed by a company called Sasol. I was responsible for all instrumentation and control system issues on 5 Sasol units.
At this time, their main instrumentation was Honeywell with Masoneilan control valves. The plant control was achieved using Honeywell DCS systems. Over the years, this has changed considerably and now quite a lot of Rockwell systems are used, which include RSlogix 5000 and Factorytalkview.
After Sasol, in 1991, I was employed at Babcock Engineering and Davy International as Senior Instrument Engineer, overseeing projects in Botswana, Zimbabwe and in the steel industry.
I was responsible for the instrumentation portions of projects from tender stage right through to commissioning.
In addition, I was also involved in customer support covering all Sub-Saharan Africa.
In 1998, I obtained my first full-time training position at Fisher Rosemount as Training Manager. presenting courses on the DeltaV and RS3 DCS systems. In addition, I conducted training on the Texas TI500 Series PLC system. Part of my responsibilities was also commissioning and customer support.
